Large sunspot group 1164 shows off it's large size west of the meridian on this close up disk shot of the setting Sun over the Sperrin Mountains in N. Ireland on March 3rd 2011. A layer of mist and haze acted as a natural filter to make the disk easily visible with the naked eye in complete comfort along with AR1164 itself which was an easy visual sight without any optical aid. Taken with a Canon 100-400mm IS USM lens at 400mm and slightly cropped. * All images are available for sale in the form of photo prints, canvas or digital files for licensing, if you are interested in a purchase simply drop me an email.
